Who is Project & Job Management for?

We train those who have a few years under the belt, those who have years of experience but want greater knowledge or those who are new to the construction industry, pivot into a different role. As long as you’re 19+ then go for it! All we ask from you is a real interest and willingness to learn. By the end of the Skills Bootcamp, learners will be able to:

  • Plan, manage, and deliver construction projects using structured methodologies
  • Apply project management techniques using cloud and desktop-based software
  • Calculate profit margins, manage overheads, and plan sustainable business growth
  • Understand contracts, deposits, and stage payments to protect cashflow
  • Promote workplace equality, diversity, inclusion, and mental wellbeing
  • Implement environmental and circular economy principles in construction projects
  • Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and teams
  • Apply ethical standards, including Modern Slavery awareness, to business practices
  • Deliver toolbox talks and foster a proactive health and safety culture
  • Apply learning from either Behavioural & Psychological Safety course or PRINCE2® 7 Foundation course.

Free or mostly funded

FREE: If you’re unemployed, self-employed as a sole trader, sub-contractor, or running a small building firm (without a payroll) there’s NO CHARGE!

10% FEE: Small to medium sized employers with a payroll, who have new relevant roles or wish to upskill employees, pay 10% of the training cost – the other 90% is funded by the government.

30% FEE: Large employers (250+), who have new relevant roles for their employees, pay 30% of the training cost – the rest is funded by the government.

  • 19+ years of age
  • 3+ years resident in the UK
  • Lives or works in the geographic region that has funding
  • Hasn’t undertaken any other Skills Bootcamps in the last 12 months

What you will need for this online course

  • Windows laptop/computer (for software package installation)
  • Broadband access
  • Video access i.e. Microsoft Teams/Zoom for training and meetings with course tutor
  • Construction experience preferred but not essential.

What will you get when you've finished?

  • Skills Bootcamp Certificate of Achievement
  • Behavioural & Psychological Safety Certification or PRINCE2® 7 Foundation Certification
  • A Career Progression Plan produced with a Careers Advisor
  • If relevant, guaranteed job interview with Supply Chain of Galliford Try and CITB registered employers
  • Mentor for up to six months.

How the course works

This Skills Bootcamp is delivered online with a dedicated Tutor via the Go To Webinar Platform.

You’ll meet with your tutor and co-learners live with video cameras on and can ask questions and interact, just as if you were in a classroom. All you need is a good internet connection and a quiet space.

Software required for this course (BuildProjex, ProjectXpert, and Health & Safety Xpert) will be provided free of charge throughout the course so you can complete your work.

  • Broadband access
  • Video access i.e. Microsoft Teams/Zoom for training and meetings with course tutor
  • Construction experience preferred but not essential.

How the funding works

Skills Bootcamps are funded by the Department for Education (DfE) so they, in conjunction with the regions they’re working with, set the parameters. The HBXL Skills Academy courses cost up to £4337+VAT depending on the course and region, which the government funds either fully or 90%.
